Students, Parents, and web visitors:
My name is Mrs. Pauls. I am the 4th grade teacher in the Arthur Logan
Holmes Elementary/Middle School. This
website will give you information about the classes I teach, what I require
from my students, and what you can expect to learn in my classes. It will
also be a resource for you. I hope that you will enjoy my classes and
share my love of learning. This
year we will be working on :
Reading: We will be following
the Open Court series. Open Court Reading is a literature rich, reading
and language arts program that instills passion in children for lifelong
learning and a love of reading.
Writing:
Students will receive daily creative writing opportunities through their
journals. Formal writing will take place through the introduction of writing
workshop.
Spelling:
Students will take a practice test each Monday. This pretest will
determine their words for the test on Friday. Although we will do some
practice in class, nightly review for some students is critical.
English:
Attention will focus on basic grammar skills such as nouns, verbs,
adverbs, adjectives, pronouns, and writing various types of sentences.
Math:
Some of the concepts we will cover this year include graphing, place value,
telling time, adding/subtracting whole numbers and money, multiplying
double and triple digit numbers, long division, geometric figures, fractions,
measurement and decimals.
Social
Studies: We will be studying the regions of the
United States of America during the first portion of the year. Later
on we will do an in-depth study of the state of Michigan.
